Santa Clara Family Health Plan’s Governing Board Welcomes Two New Members

San José, CA – October 14, 2019 – Alma Burrell and Sherri R. Sager have been appointed to serve on the Governing Board of Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP). Ms. Burrell is the Associate Director for Roots Community Health Center; Ms. Sager is the Chief Government and Community Relations Officer at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH).

"Ms. Burrell and Ms. Sager share in SCFHP's commitment to supporting a local health care safety net that ensures everyone has access to the care they need and the respect they deserve."

With more than 20 years in community and public health, Ms. Burrell helped guide the successful expansion of Roots Community Health Center from Alameda to Santa Clara County. Roots clinics and programs offer a whole-person care approach to the diverse communities of Santa Clara County. She now oversees all regional activities and day-to-day operations of the health center. Ms. Burrell works to establish local partnerships to further the agency's vision to positively impact health status among communities of color.

Prior to her work at Roots, Ms. Burrell was a Health Care Program Manager at the Santa Clara County Public Health Department where she managed several programs, including Immunizations, Black Infant Health, Adolescent Family Life, Maternal Child and Adolescent Health, Traffic Safety, and Violence Prevention. With a focus on the underserved residents of the county, Ms. Burrell developed and implemented community health education and promotion to support successful health outcomes. Ms. Burrell has a Master's degree in Public Health from San José State University.

At LPCH, Ms. Sager leads a department responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing relationships with community partners and elected officials in all levels of government. In her tenure with LPCH, Ms. Sager has played a vital role in linking the resources of the hospital with the needs of the community.

For over 30 years, Ms. Sager has been an advocate for community service and public health. She has worked as staff for elected officials, managed political campaigns, and has served as a volunteer on local and state task forces and commissions. Ms. Sager has a Master's degree in Public Administration from San José State University and serves on several boards throughout the Bay Area.
