Corporate news | Wednesday, March 20, 2019

San Jose, CA – March 20, 2019 –Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP), the safety net health plan for Santa Clara County, announced that the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has awarded an Accreditation status of Accredited to SCFHP's Cal MediConnect (Medicare-Medicaid Plan) line of business. NCQA is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality by evaluating health plans on how well they manage all parts of their health care delivery system.

The SCFHP Cal MediConnect plan streamlines care for individuals eligible for both Medicare and Medi-Cal by bringing together in one plan medical, prescription drug, behavioral health, and vision benefits, as well as long-term care, care coordination, and other supportive services. SCFHP's Cal MediConnect plan, serving more than 7,800 members, is the first dual Medicare-Medicaid plan in Northern California to earn Accredited status.

"NCQA Accreditation for our Cal MediConnect plan is a milestone achievement for SCFHP and serves as validation of our continued efforts to improve quality of care and services for our members," said SCFHP CEO Christine M. Tomcala. "I commend the hard work of our staff and of the providers, hospitals, and community-based organizations who we partner with to deliver quality care to the residents of Santa Clara County."

NCQA Accreditation is awarded at five different performance levels; Excellent, Commendable, Accredited, Provisional, and Interim. The standards are purposely set high and are intended to help organizations achieve the highest level of performance possible by creating an environment of continuous improvement. SCFHP's award status of Accredited is given to organizations for service and clinical quality that meet the basic requirements of NCQA's rigorous standards for consumer protection and quality improvement. SCFHP has earned the Accredited status for three years.

NCQA Accreditation provides purchasers and consumers with an unprecedented ability to evaluate the quality of different health plans along a variety of important dimensions, and to make their health plan decisions based on demonstrated value. SCFHP chose to pursue NCQA Accreditation because it is the choice of regulators and respected by many stakeholders, including consumers, health care providers, and researchers.
