New Medicare Cards Coming Soon

February 22, 2018

Medicare will be mailing new Medicare cards between April 2018 and April 2019. The new Medicare card has a new Medicare number. This number is unique to you. Medicare is removing Social Security Numbers from Medicare cards. This change will help protect your identity.

You don’t need to do anything to get a new card. But make sure Social Security Administration has your correct mailing address. You can visit www.ssa.gov/myaccount or call 1-800-772-1213 if updates are needed. TTY users should call 1-800-325-0778.

The new Medicare numbers won’t change Medicare benefits. People with Medicare may start using their new cards as soon as they get them. Once you get your new card, destroy your old card. Protect yourself. Make sure no one can get your personal information from your old Medicare card.

If you are an SCFHP Cal MediConnect member, your SCFHP Cal MediConnect member ID card will not change. You should continue to take it with you to the doctor and the pharmacy.
