What Should I Do When . . .

There are two different numbers to call, depending on your doctor.

If your doctor is at Valley Health Centers or one of the Community Clinics,
call Valley Connection at 1-888-334-1000.

All other members should call FirstHelp
at 1-800-288-0700.

I cut myself?
My baby feels hot?
I have a burn?
I feel dizzy?
I'm coughing or sneezing?
My head hurts?

Call one of our nurses
And get help on the phone,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week

This is a free service for Santa Clara Family Health Plan members

When you or someone in your family is sick or hurt...

The nurse will ask you some questions about your problem.
Tell her where it hurts. What it looks like. And what it feels like.

Then, the nurse can help you decide if you need to:

Go to the hospital
Go to the doctor
Care for yourself at home

You will get friendly, helpful advice.

If your illness or injury is not so serious, going to an emergency room may not be the best choice. You may have to wait a long time. People who are more seriously ill will be treated first. And, the doctor who treats you will not be your regular doctor who knows about you and your health.

So, always call our advice nurse at 1-800-288-0700

Even on weekends. Or in the middle of the night. The faster you call, the faster we can help you feel better.

When to get Emergency care

You should always go to an emergency room or
call 911 if you or someone in your family:

Can't breathe
Has severe pain
Is in labor
Is having chest pains
