And, it’s good business.

When your employees’ children are healthy:

  • productivity increases
  • absentee rates decrease.
Employees will come to work with peace of mind, knowing that their families have health coverage.

An estimated 71,000 children in Santa Clara County have no health insurance. Most of these children qualify for coverage that is available to low and medium income families.

Under one of three different free or low-cost programs, children receive complete health care coverage, which includes full medical (including prescriptions), dental and vision benefits. In Santa Clara County, the Healthy Kids program now provides health insurance for those who did not previously qualify for existing programs. This program is available to children under the the age of 19, regardless of immigration status, whose families earn up to 300% Federal Poverty Level ($5,652.50 per month for a family of 5).

Children without a routine health care provider:

  • get sick more often as babies,
  • are less likely to be immunized as toddlers, and
  • are less likely to get treated for routine illnesses that can turn into serious health problems.
Even children who seem healthy need regular check-ups to treat problems before they undermine their development and performance in school. They need someone to notice if they need glasses, if they can hear properly, and if their physical and mental growth is on track.

While many businesses want to offer dependent coverage to their employees, many cannot afford to do so. However, you can let your employees know that they may qualify for one of these three existing programs. And it costs you nothing. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Tell your employees about this important opportunity. Share this information with them at your next staff meeting and post this brochure in break rooms or on bulletin boards. We also would be happy to give a presentation explaining the details of the programs available.

  2. Call 1-800-260-2055 to receive information about applying. Trained assistors are available to help your employees complete the applications in their own language.

  3. Provide verification of an employee’s wages and income promptly when requested. Or advise your employees to retain check stubs for verification purposes.
