SANTA CLARA FAMILY HEALTH PLAN ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS IN MEDICAL DEPARTMENT

Campbell, CA – January 2, 2008 – Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP) announced the appointments of Lily Boris, MD, as Medical Director and. R. Dennis Collins, MD, as Chief Medical Officer. Both appointments were effective December 31, 2007.

“Dr. Collins has served as Medical Director through many changes in the Health Plan, particularly the institution of our Healthy Kids program and then, most recently, Healthy Generations,” said SCFHP CEO Leona M. Butler. “As Chief Medical Officer, he will be able to concentrate more thoroughly on analysis of our utilization and medical management results and helping to formulate measures to improve our medical services, particularly in the areas of quality, efficiency and access to care.”

Dr. Boris had served as the SCFHP Associate Medical Director since early 2007. As Medical Director she will take on direct responsibility for Quality Improvement, Utilization Management and Pharmacy oversight. Additionally, she will serve one-half day every other week as volunteer faculty at the SCVMC Discharge Clinic. During her tenure as Associate Medical Director, she acquired a solid background in Medicare and Medi-Cal while at the same time developing the network of physicians needed to provide in-home care and specialty care to the developmentally disabled adults being transitioned from Agnews Developmental Center into Santa Clara County.

Dr. Boris and Dr. Collins will work together, backing each other up on day-to-day medical management activities.

SCFHP is a public, not-for-profit health plan that provides comprehensive health coverage to more than 101,000 low- and moderate-income residents of Santa Clara County.  In addition to providing managed care services to persons in Medi-Cal, it is the community health plan for the Healthy Families program. In 2007, SCFHP launched a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan called Healthy Generations.  The health plan has received both national and statewide attention thanks to the Healthy Kids Program which provides coverage to children not eligible for state or federal funding.  The first health plan in the country to establish such a program, the Santa Clara Family Health Plan started a statewide movement to cover all children.  In Santa Clara County, close to 12,000 children are receiving medical, dental and vision care thanks to Healthy Kids.
